Summary
As part of our BBB Success Group goal setting methodology, we put every goal through a pressure test to make sure it’s the right thing for the right reasons.
One of the main reasons people fail to achieve their goals is because they don’t take the time to make sure they are the correct ones for their desired ambitions. To understand the difference between the right and wrong reasons, think of your reasons for achieving the goals as fuel. You want the purest, cleanest and most positive fuel behind your goals. Negative fuel often creates a negative outcome even if the goal is a good goal for you. At the very least it will provide you with a negative experience as you progress the goal.
As you can see, my general guide here is negative and positive. If the goal is the right goal for you and your reasons for achieving the goal are positive ones, then you’re in pretty good shape for achieving that goal. Conversely, your chances of success and a positive experience diminish greatly when they’re not the right goal, and you’re going for it for the wrong reasons.
In this video, I share the simple grid and formal I use to give myself every possible chance of setting the right goals for all the right reasons.
